PhD Scholarship: APA (Industry) Available in Intelligent Sensors, Sensor Networks and Information Processing (ISSNIP), The University of Melbourne

An APA(I) scholarship is available for a PhD candidate in a multidisciplinary research team with the aim of developing new techniques for screening fetal wellbeing.

The role: The successful PhD candidate will develop Doppler Ultrasound signal processing  methods to assess fetal cardiac valve movement (opening and closing) timings  and fetal electrocardiogram features to recognize abnormal fetuses. The study will be conducted at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering  in collaboration with Royal Women’s Hospital located on the Parkville campus. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a collaborative industry-focussed  project with an international medical equipment industry partner and to gain highly valuable skills in a range of in fetal screening methods.

The Person: Applicants should have an Honours (H 1 (above 80%) or H2A (above 75%)) degree preferably in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science and Engineering, although applicants with Hons in another mathematical science related discipline are also encouraged to apply. Experience in Biomedical Signal Processing/ Instrumentation would be advantageous but not critical.

Remuneration: The scholarship is available to Australian citizens and Australian permanent residents; it pays an annual tax-free stipend of $27,222 (2010 rate, indexed annually) for 3 years.
